Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is forcing Dr. Jeffrey Niehaus to leave Canada due to the stringent health requirements of the immigration system; his son was diagnosed with autism in the summer of 2010. Niehaus is currently a senior instructor in UVic’s Psychology Department, the department undergraduate advisor and a former lecturer at University of California Santa Barbara.
Niehaus came to Canada in 2009 on a work visa under the provincial nominee system from the B.C. government, by which the province may recommend that the immigrant be given permanent residence in Canada (status that gives all the rights of citizenship except voting).
